Term 2 Online Lesson 1: Crisis in Japan

Dear John,

Hi, it's been a while since I wrote to you, but after the trauma of the disaster that recently happened in Japan, I really need someone to talk to.
The disaster struck 2 days ago. It was in the afternoon, and I was in class, having my usual lessons. Suddenly, I felt the ground rumble. The next thing I knew, the teacher was screaming for us to take cover under our desks. The next few minutes were the most terrifying few of my life. The whole building crumbled around us. The lights fell off the ceiling, the computer was thrown off the teacher's desk, there was a constant flow of debris hitting our desks, causing such a loud racket. I could hear the screams of the entire class, as if it were their last. Then, it stopped. My teacher said it was okay for us to come out from our "shelter". As I surveyed my surroundings, I was astonished to see that the whole building was reduced to rubble. However, the worst was yet to come. The loud blaring of tsunami warnings was heard and my heart sank.
I saw a colossal wave of water rushing towards the city. The azure wave of death swept across the whole city, leaving a trail of mass destruction in its wake. It toppled trees, swept away cars and trucks like children's toys, and washed away everything else. Later on, the whole town was submerged in water. People took refuge on their roofs as that was the only place which was not underwater. I am so lucky to be alive.

Yours sincerely,
Daryl
